Olivia Smith nominated for PFA Young Player of the Year

Arsenal winger Olivia Smith has been nominated for the PFA WSL Young Player of the Year award for 2025-26. The Canadian joined the Gunners from Liverpool last summer in a deal worth £1m, a world record at the time.

Smith scored within minutes of her debut with a long range effort in the 4-1 home victory over London City Lionesses. Smith went on to grab five goals and three assists in the WSL and establish herself as one of the first choice wide players.

She also scored three goals in the Champions League as Arsenal got to the semi-finals and she was on the score sheet in Arsenal’s 3-2 FIFA Champions Cup Final win over Corinthians at Arsenal Stadium in February. Gunners academy graduate Freya Godfrey, who joined London City Lionesses, also made the list.

Nominees
Laura Blinkilde Brown (Manchester City)
Veerle Buurman (Chelsea)
Freya Godfrey (London City Lionesses)
Toko Koga (Tottenham Hotspur)
Olivia Smith (Arsenal)
Alyssa Thompson (Chelsea)

Essentially, two Arsenal players on the list. Just kidding 🙂

But decent first season for Smith. Not easy making that jump from a team where you are the absolute star player to a team where there is an array of star players. But she did have her moments.

I would love to see her more on the left — where is can shoot more. I do believe the extra 3 – 5 goals she can generate from shooting more could be, hopefully, worth some extra points. Here’s hoping for a much better second season for The Arsenal.
