Report: Leicester teen Monga set to join Arsenal

According to various reports, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga.

The 16-year-old became the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he made his debut for the Foxes in April 2025, a record that has since seen him slip to third following Max Dowman’s breakthrough. He went on to establish himself in Leicester’s first team during a Championship campaign that ended with a second successive relegation.

Predominantly right-footed, Monga is comfortable operating on either flank and is regarded as one of the brightest young attacking talents in the country. Arsenal reportedly see him as a player capable of developing into a long-term option in the final third, particularly if either Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard move on this summer.

Monga is due to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 next month, meaning Leicester will be entitled to compensation should he leave. Arsenal will hope to agree a fee directly, although the matter could be referred to a tribunal if the two clubs are unable to reach an agreement.

If the England under-19 international completes a move to the Emirates, he will become the latest highly rated teenager to commit his future to the Gunners. Arsenal have already secured the signing of Irish winger Victor Ozhianvuna, who will arrive from Shamrock Rovers when he turns 18, while Ecuadorian brothers Edwin and Holger Quintero are also set to join the club in August 2027.

Dare I say it but we are finally acting like a big club again. Youth recruitment is critical to long term success, just look at City and Chelsea’s academies and the impact on first team (even if it mostly financial). Important that this hugely talented 16 year old is choosing us over 115 for what it represents to our future.

Why look at their academies? Better to look at Hale End, or?

One for the future? Yes.

But we need quality, developed players this summer.

Watching some highlights of this guy reminds me of watching early noni highlight reels- lots of tricks and step overs and individual ability, but needs to learn to play within the team structure more. The right coaching could really benefit him, and its clear hes better than leicesters setup, so moving up (even if its into our youth system) seems logical.
